In accordance with state and local tax laws, please be aware that starting April 5th, 2006, applicable sales tax charges for customers residing in Texas, California, Arizona and Minnesota will become the responsibility of the subscriber. This will affect all online serial code purchases as well as monthly subscription charges (including the City of Heroes comic subscription), and all items purchased through PlayNC. This sales tax will be the reason behind any noticeable increase applied to recurring monthly billing statements. We appreciate your understanding regarding this change and thank you for your continued patronage.

Q: If I live in a state other than Texas, California, Arizona or Minnesota, does this affect me?
A: If you do not reside in Texas, California, Arizona or Minnesota, then the sales tax charge will not affect you.
Q: Other companies charge me sales tax in my state for their game even though I don’t live in Texas, California, Arizona or Minnesota. Aren’t you supposed to charge me too?
A: Tax laws only require that we collect and pay applicable sales tax on sales occurring in the states where we have a legal business presence. If another company charges you sales tax, then it is likely they have a business presence in your state.
Q: What is my applicable sales tax rate? What will my new total charge be?
A: As local sales tax can vary from location to location, we are unable to provide you with a list of increases for specific areas. To determine your local and state sales tax rates, please consult with your local or state tax office.

A: No. Previously, sales tax was not included in the prices you were charged.
Q: Why didn’t I receive a 30-day notice for this price change per your User Agreement?
A: The 30-day notice in the User Agreement refers to price increases/decreases associated with our products specifically. Collection of applicable sales tax is not a change in our pricing, but is a requirement of state and local laws.
Q: Does this affect my purchases in the PlayNC Store?
A: No. The PlayNC Store has always charged appropriate sales tax and will continue to do so.
Q: How does this affect a multi-month subscription plan.
A: Sales tax will be applied in exactly the same way -- to the total amount your credit card is being charged.
Q: Does this affect the price of my City of Heroes comic book subscription?
A: Yes, sales tax will now be included in comic subscriptions.
