Ratings Explained

Ratings Explained

Every NCsoft game is independently assessed and graded according to the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) age rating system. This is a Europe-wide scheme aimed at ensuring parents are well informed about the games they and their children are buying. The rating of each game is determined by a two-tier system; age rating and content type. It is the combination of both these tiers that allows parents and those purchasing games for children to ensure that the game they purchase is appropriate to the age of the intended player. Below are the official definitions for age and content ratings.

Age Rating

3+ Content suitable for all ages. Some non-realistic violence in a comical context may be permitted.
7+ Some content may frighten very young children. Non-realistic violence towards fantasy characters and nudity in a non sexual context may be permitted. Parents may wish to check the game before they allow their young children to play it.
12+ Content suitable for those aged 12 and above. Realistic violence towards fantasy characters and non-realistic violence may be permitted. There may be some sexual innuendo, descriptions and images (but nothing too extreme) as well as some mild bad language.
16+ Content suitable for those aged 16 and above. Realistic and sustained violence may be permitted. The game may show non-graphic sexual activity as well as erotic or sexual nudity. It may also contain more extreme bad language, scenes dealing with drugs (including tobacco and alcohol) and may glamorise criminal activities.
18+ Graphic content suitable only for those aged 18 and above.
15+ Contents suitable for children aged 15 and over. For more information please see the BBFC guidelines.
18+ Contents suitable only for Adults aged 18 and over. For more information please see the BBFC guidelines.

Content Type

The icons below let you know what kind of content is in a game, although the levels found in each will largely depend on the age rating. For example, violence in a 7+ game would be very different to that in an 18+ game.

Violence Game contains depictions of violence.
Fear Game may be frightening or scary for small children.
Bad Language Game contains bad language.
Drugs Game refers to or depicts the use of drugs.
Sex Game depicts nudity and/or sexual behaviour or sexual references.
Discrimination Game contains depictions of, or material which may encourage discrimination.
